The Furthest I’ve Ever Been From Home

Okay, I don’t know if this will be interesting, since I’ve never actually left the United States. But, I have traveled across it, though very long ago.

I’m pretty sure I was around 7 or 8 years old, maybe even 9. I was super excited about the trip. We booked a fancy hotel near the ocean (I love swimming), and I couldn’t wait for all the fun adventures, like the zoo!

Can you guess where I went? That’s right. Sunny San Diego!

That was probably one of the best trips I can remember. My entire family went; my mom, dad, sister, and obviously me. It was exactly how I imagined it would be. There was perfect weather every day; not too hot, not too, cold, not cloudy or windy, just sunny. We stayed at the Hotel Del Coronado, and it was so cool! It was a very old hotel, and they even kept their old elevator (Just with a new lift). They had a candy shop, a ball room, a pool, and an enormous sandy beach! It was the perfect view of the pacific ocean. I loved swimming in the ocean, just riding on the waves. I even lost a pair of googles while swimming! One night, they had a sort of buffet in the ball room, with delicious kinds of food. I can’t remember exactly what was served there, but I know it was good. Then there was the Zoo. The San Diego Zoo is probably one the coolest zoos out there. Its absolutely huge, and has almost every type of animal (Sadly, they didn’t have the Pandas when we went). I remember taking a bus that tours the entire Zoo. It was like they perfectly crafted each environment for the species; Hot and dry for Savannah animals, chilly and icy for Arctic animals, and humid and full of plants for Jungle Animals. I also remember taking a cable car which went over the zoo, and I remember the view being fantastic!

Going to San Diego was unlike anything I’d experienced before, and I absolutely loved it. Of course, I love living in Wisconsin too; I couldn’t bare a place with no seasons. But, I really liked that trip because it broadened my sense of the world, and helped me realize what other places were like. It was a big learning experience for me, and I’m very grateful that we went.
