This is a really thought question. I mean, it changes all of the time! One day I’ll be super motivated, the next not so much. But there is a small driving force that I can feel every day. I wonder if that’s something that meditation helps with; tapping into that driving force or energy.
Well, what usually motivates me is thinking about the people I love, and how what I do will affect them. This is especially helpful when cleaning up after making a meal. I could make the choice to just leave all the dishes laying around and keep the kitchen a mess, but my family wouldn’t like that. They wouldn’t be able to cook their own meals, they’d have to do all the dishes, and they probably would be mad at me. So, that’s why I always clean up after cooking, even though sometimes I have other things I want to be doing. This is just one example; I do many other things for the people I love, including my friends.
There’s also another type of motivation I get which I don’t really understand. Sometimes I just want to do things because I know that they’re good for me. I guess I’ve probably heard someone say it somewhere, like brushing your teeth twice a day is good, which is why I do it everyday.
Another motivation I usually get is just wanting to better myself and the planet. I like to pick trash up off the side of the road because I think about all the animals and plants that would be harmed if it were to stay in the environment. I think of how happy they will be if it’s gone, and I also think about how beautiful the road will look afterwards.
The last type of motivation I get is from curiosity. This is probably why I like science and math so much; there’s still so much to learn in both fields. Sometimes I just like to do things to see if I can actually do them, like run a marathon. I think I get motivation from this because it just makes me happy to discover new things. I love reading for this reason; there’s so much information in one book!
So, that’s basically it. Sometimes I get motivation from other places, but that’s pretty rare. These four reasons are the most common sources of motivation for me. I hope you get inspired by what motivates me, and try one of these yourself. Think about the people you love, do things that are good for you, better yourself and the planet, and always be curious.
